COX Discontinues Newsgroup Service
Apr 27, 2010
Oh...there once was a time when almost every ISP provided good newsgroup service. Every ISP had their own news server, and they would be part of a merry and happy family called the newsgroups.
Within the last few years, most major ISPs have given up their news servers. That leaves folk like us to carry on the news server torch and the great newsgroups community!
Here's the depressing word from COX:
"Effective June 30, 2010, Cox Communications will discontinue Usenet service to our subscribers. Declining newsgroup usage in recent years has highlighted the need to focus our resources on other priorities, such as increasing our Internet speeds and providing new services, including Cox Media Store and Share..."
Sigh...declining usage because everyone knows that most ISP newsgroup servers stink anyway! Good thing we have the usenet newsgroups here at Red Orb News.
